The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi passed "The Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 2004" (DAHMASR Act 2004) on September 7, 2005. It accredits the Department of Archaeology to undertake conservation, preservation and maintenance plan of action for the monuments and sites located on the national capital's domain, other than those protected centrally.
The Department of Archaeology has drafted The Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 2023 which have been duly vetted by the Law department and the same are under process to seek the approval of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor for publication.
