According to Zafar Hasan this monument is a pavilion originally built in the center of the Hauz Khas Lake. The Hauz Khas or Hauz Alai known to have covered 70 acres of land was built by Sultan Alauddin Khilji in 1295 CE, it was enclosed by a stone masonry wall. In the reign of Firozshah Tuglaq (1354 CE) it was filled up and there was no water in it later on he cleared out the tank so that it could be filled up from year to year with water. |
| 6. | Architectural style |
Currently the monument is situated on the northern edge of the present lake but earlier it may have been center linked to the Southern edge by causeway. The lower story of the building is still intact and remains of pillar base of the probable domed pavilion can be seen on the roof. We can only state the architecture through the remaining parts of the monument which is rectangular in plan with horseshoe arch and have four staircase in clockwise direction. |
