In 1972 the Memorial was rededicated in the memory of martyrs fought for Indian freedom. The plaque at the entrance of the tower was installed and unveiled on the 25th anniversary of Indian Independence.
6. Architectural style The memorial, built in red sandstone, is a fine example of Gothic architecture. The tapering tower, raised on a high base, has four tiers rising from an octagonal plan. It is entered through an arched opening on the west and a flight of winding stairs leads up to the top which is crowned by a red sandstone spire surmounted by a marble cross.
