Heritage education is important to bring history and the social science curriculum alive for the students through active learning and to promote awareness among young children to build a future through an understanding of the past and the present. The project enables schools to adopt any selected monument in their vicinity and conduct various activities throughout the year; in order to ensure that students are appraised about the historical and architectural importance of the over 100-year-old monuments. Under this project, students are allowed to take up work like removal of vegetation, cleaning and dusting in and around the monument to help in preservation of the monument. Activities such as staging of plays or skits for the public relating to the conservation and preservation of monuments have been already underlined by the Board. While, other activities include painting competition, quiz, clay modeling, debates and extempore, creative writing, poster making, photographic exhibition and competition, post card and brochure making competitions, storytelling competition relating to the monument, its environs and plantation of saplings etc. The Department of Archaeology extends full cooperation and encourages schools to adopt an ancient/ historical monument of local importance as per guidelines issued by CBSE.
