5. | Brief History | The building is originally built in 1637 CE as Library by Dara Shikoh the elder son of emperor Shahjahan, was later subjected to addition and modification several times by different persons who occupied it. There are some remains of the original structure specially on the northern side at lower level and in form of walls which added later. There is a Qutabkhana or Kitabkhana which originally housed the collection of books and manuscripts of Dara Shikoh. Rest of the building represent colonial style with large roman pillars. |
6. | Architectural style | The building has a rectangular plan with a flat terrace. The most significant elements of the structure are high circular columns which form the southern facade with louvered openings between them. The central portion of the facade is slightly projected. The building is entered through a large veranda surrounded by 16 circular columns. The interior has one large room at the centre where remains of Mughal structure can be seen. |
